The most popular attractions of the island

Mykonos is an island of dual personality and dimension. Apart from its luxurious and cosmopolitan atmosphere, it offers many beautiful sights in Mykonos Town, landscapes and places for travellers seeking to enrich their holidays creatively.

1. Visit Kato Myli

One of the most popular attractions, and trademark of the island, these imposing mills used to harness the incessant force of the north wind to grind local grains. Between the 17th and 19th centuries, they contributed decisively to the economic strengthening and vitality of the island, as early manufacturing wind power units. Since World War I, the gradual technological developments led to their decline. Today, there are only 7 of the 20 windmills left in the area.

2. Stroll Little Venice

Built in the 18th century, the romantic, colourful, and impressive Little Venice district, with its magnificent architecture and sea-washed balconies, accommodated the wealthy merchants and powerful captains of that era. Today, the unforgettable beauty of this tiny, picturesque corner is so photographed it travels around the world like a postcard. This spot is ideal for leisurely sunset strolls and is home to many magnificent restaurants serving local delicacies, and cafes to sit back, relax and enjoy the captivating landscape.

3. Walk in Ano Mera

Ano Mera is the second most picturesque settlement of Mykonos, 8km outside Chora. It delights with its Cycladic beauty, wonderful, picturesque alleys, and small traditional tavernas. Since the 15th century, Ano Mera is home to the monastery of Panagia Tourliani and the homonymous miraculous icon. The historic monastery reflects the spirituality of the devoted Mykonians throughout the centuries. It is famous for its fine, local flavours. Complete your walk with a culinary experience in one of the traditional cafes or tavernas of the village.

4. Day trip to Delos

The day trip to Delos, apart from revitalising your senses, will introduce you to an enchanting journey through the history of Ancient Greece. According to mythology, Delos was the birthplace of Artemis and Apollo, and emerged in antiquity as an important religious centre with numerous temples honouring the sanctity of Gods. Today, Delos is a Unesco World Heritage Site. This ancient history ark, through the uniqueness of its archaeological treasures, takes us on a journey to a wondrous world of exceptional historical importance and grandeur.
